1,268 Corps Members Pass Out in Gombe; 16 to Be Punished
On January 24, 2025, the Gombe State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Chinwe Nwachukwu, announced that 1,268 corps members successfully finished their one-year service. This event took place during a modest passing-out ceremony at the zonal office. However, it was noted that 16 corps members would face disciplinary measures, while 21 others would be remobilised due to various offences.
In her farewell speech, Nwachukwu expressed her pride in the achievements of these corps members, who are part of Batch A, Stream I. She praised them for their hard work and dedication throughout their service year in Gombe State. “I am overjoyed and proud of all you have accomplished during your time here,” she stated. She acknowledged the contributions of the corps members to the development of the state and the nation.
Nwachukwu highlighted the significant impact these young people have had in their host communities, particularly in areas like education, healthcare, agriculture, and community service projects. Their efforts, she noted, would be remembered as part of Nigeria’s ongoing journey toward growth and unity.
The coordinator also emphasised the importance of the experiences gained during the service year. She encouraged the corps members to carry forward the skills and knowledge they acquired. “As you move on, take with you the training and lessons learnt,” she advised. She urged them to consider the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development program, which can help them find good jobs or start their businesses.
While celebrating the accomplishments of the majority, Nwachukwu also addressed the disciplinary actions against the 16 corps members. Details about their offences were not specified, but the message was clear: adherence to the rules is crucial.

The 21 corps members who are to be remobilised will have another chance to complete their service, which highlights the NYSC’s commitment to ensuring that all participants meet the required standards.
The ceremony was low-key but filled with gratitude and reflection. Nwachukwu thanked the Almighty for giving the corps members the strength to complete their service successfully. She expressed hope that the relationships they built during their time in Gombe would remain strong, fostering understanding and cooperation among different cultures.
As the corps members prepare to embark on the next steps of their lives, Nwachukwu’s words serve as a reminder of the significance of their service. Whether they choose to pursue further education, enter the workforce, or start their ventures, she is confident that they will excel and contribute positively to society.
The passing-out ceremony not only celebrated the successful completion of service for many but also reinforced the values of discipline and responsibility. The NYSC aims to prepare these young individuals for future challenges, encouraging them to use their experiences for personal growth and community development. As they leave Gombe, these corps members carry with them not only the memories of their time spent serving but also the hope of making a meaningful impact in Nigeria.
