14 Killed in Boko Haram Attack on Chibok Village

At least 14 mourners have been confirmed dead following a deadly invasion by suspected Boko Haram terrorists in Kopl village, Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State. Several others sustained gunshot injuries during the attack.

The assault occurred around 6:00 PM on Monday as villagers gathered for the final day of prayers for a recently deceased community member. The assailants reportedly opened fire on the mourners and went on to set ablaze a church and over ten residential buildings, leaving the community in ruins and displacing residents.

This tragic event comes less than 24 hours after another deadly incident in the state, where numerous motorists and passengers lost their lives along the Gamboru Ngala–Kala Balge road due to an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by insurgents.

Chibok Local Government Chairman, Hon. Modu Mustapha, initially confirmed seven casualties on Monday but later updated the figure to 14 on Tuesday morning, warning that more bodies could still be discovered as search operations continue.

“The Kopl attack is devastating. As of this morning, 14 bodies have been recovered. The entire community has been displaced, and there has been no response from security agencies,” Mustapha lamented.

Injured victims were rushed to Mubi General Hospital in neighboring Adamawa State for medical treatment.

Reacting to the growing insecurity in the Southern Borno Senatorial District, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume described the situation as heartbreaking and unimaginable. He disclosed that he received a distress call about the killing of over 10 vigilantes in a separate attack between Hawul LGA in Borno and Garkida town in Adamawa.

“My people are suffering severe casualties with little or no confrontation from security operatives. In the past month alone, over a hundred have been killed in coordinated attacks across Sabon Gari, Izge, Kirawa, Pulka, Damboa, Chibok, Askira Uba, and many other communities,” Ndume stated.
