153 Lives Lost in Majia Tanker Explosion, 100 Injured.
The death toll from the tanker explosion in Majia Local Government Area of Jigawa State has risen to 153, with 100 people currently hospitalized. Daily post reported that 105 people had died and 70 others were injured.
The police spokesman, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, in a statement, confirmed the increased number of casualties. He stated that the deceased have been buried in a mass grave, and the injured are receiving treatment at Aminu Kano, Jahun, Nguru, Hadejia, and Gumel hospitals.
Governor Mallam Umar Namadi grieved over the tragedy. He quickly visited the site of the accident, where he participated in the funeral prayer and mass burial of the victims.
He said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims during this painful time.
“We stand in solidarity with those who have lost loved ones and those injured in this tragic incident.”
Governor Namadi also announced that the state government will cover the medical expenses of all those injured in the explosion who are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals within and outside the state.
He assured that the government will provide necessary support to the affected families and is committed to taking steps to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The State Emergency Management Agency’s (SEMA) recent data about the incident shows that the accident claimed 107 lives, while 57 people have been hospitalized with varying degrees of burns.
Governor Namadi advised the public to prioritize safety during emergencies and to avoid gathering at accident scenes in order to prevent additional tragedies.
