207 Children Gain their Freedom in Nationwide Police Rescue
In a heartening display of bravery and dedication, the Nigeria Police Force has successfully rescued 207 children from the horrors of abduction and disrupted multiple bandit attacks across the country. This breakthrough was announced by Force Spokesperson ACP Muyiwa Adejobi in a statement on January 20, 2025.
A major part of this success came from the dismantling of a child abduction and trafficking syndicate, with the most notable operation taking place in Akure, Ondo State. There, police rescued 14 children—ranging in age from just one week to seven years—from traffickers. Three suspects were arrested during the operation, highlighting the police’s steadfast commitment to tackling the serious issue of child trafficking that continues to plague Nigeria.
In Kogi State, the police also prevented a potentially devastating bandit attack. On January 18, 2025, authorities received intelligence about a group of armed bandits gathering in a forest near Budon to plan an attack. In a swift and decisive action, police engaged the bandits in a fierce gunfight. The outcome was the neutralisation of one bandit and the arrest of four others, with the police seizing an array of weapons, including an AK-47 rifle, live ammunition, and several motorcycles.
Katsina State also saw a bold intervention. Police forces received intelligence about a group of armed bandits heading toward Ruwan Doruwa Village. Responding quickly, police officers intercepted the bandits in a daring confrontation that resulted in the neutralisation of seven criminals. The remaining bandits fled, leaving behind 109 stolen livestock.
These operations underscore a renewed and proactive approach by the Nigeria Police Force, focusing on intelligence-led policing—a strategy that has proven successful in disrupting criminal activities. The recent actions have not only halted ongoing crimes but also reassured the public, offering a glimpse of hope in a nation often affected by insecurity.

The scale of these operations and the rescue of 207 children deliver a serious blow to criminal networks involved in abductions and trafficking. It serves as a reminder that the fight against these criminal syndicates must be persistent and collaborative, involving not just the police but all security agencies working together toward a common goal.
ACP Adejobi reaffirmed the police’s commitment to protecting citizens and ensuring their safety. He emphasised that the force will continue to be relentless in its fight against criminal activity, ensuring that offenders are brought to justice and that peace is upheld throughout Nigeria. The dedication shown by the police officers involved in these operations reflects their vital role as guardians of the nation’s security.
The Nigeria Police Force’s recent successes emphasise the importance of community cooperation in the fight against crime. Citizens’ support, vigilance, and timely reporting of suspicious activities remain key to strengthening law enforcement efforts. Together, the police and the public can create a safer, more secure Nigeria.
As these operations prove, there is hope for a future where child abductions and banditry are no longer part of the daily struggle and where law enforcement can work hand in hand with the community to protect those most vulnerable. With continued efforts and unwavering resolve, the Nigeria Police Force is proving that it is not only possible but essential to reclaim safety for all.
