MFM Devotional for Today:
Today, we will begin to look at the life of another Bible character, Jochebed, whose life’s lessons have lots to teach us.
Jochebed was the daughter of Levi, the wife of Amram, and the mother of the three glorious children that shook Egypt: Moses, Aaron, and Miriam. The name Jochebed means God’s glory. What lessons can we learn from her?
Jochebed was sensitive to the Spirit of God. She, by the Spirit, saw something in her newborn son. She saw that he was a glorious child and not one to be thrown into the river of the Egyptian god.
When others were throwing their babies into the Nile River, she saw something different. “And the woman conceived and bore a son, and when she saw that he was a good child, she hid him for three months” (Exodus 2:2). Right from the first day of birth, she saw. Mothers, what do you see in your children? Father, what do you see? Note that she didn’t just see what she saw with her physical eyesight. Flesh and blood didn’t reveal what she saw.

The things of the spirit cannot be perceived by mere eyesight. She was seen by the spirit, and she was sensitive to what the spirit said and revealed. Probably, if she didn’t see, she too might have thrown her Moses away, as many other mothers did. But she saw.
How far can you see, Beloved? I pray that God will release the miracle of opened eyes on us all, in Jesus’ name. Parenting is not a task to be taken in the flesh. We need the Spirit of God to help us know how to guide our children through life. We dare not rely on our own head knowledge. We need to be sensitive to the Spirit of God and ask God for open eyes.
What can you see, Beloved? Your vision determines your actions and directions. A lot of people have thrown good people and relationships in their lives away due to a lack of discernment. Some have missed those they should meet and met those they should miss. Some have gotten angry with their helpers and deliverers simply because they cannot see beyond the immediate. May we not throw away our Moses for lack of sensitivity, in Jesus’ name.
PRAYER POINTS:
MORNING
- My Father, open my eyes in the name of Jesus.
- Spirit of discernment, my life is available; fall upon me in the Name of Jesus.
- As I go out today, I shall be at the right place at the right time, meeting the right people, in the name of Jesus.
EVENING
- I shall not meet those I should miss, in the Name of Jesus.
- I shall not miss those I should meet, in the name of Jesus.
- I shall not throw my Moses away, in the name of Jesus.
- If I have missed my helpers, mercy of God, bring them back to me in the Name of Jesus.
Lord Jesus, come into my life. I accept you as my Lord and personal savior. I believe in my heart that you died and rose from the dead to save me. Thank you, Lord, for saving me, in Jesus name, Amen.
