LG Poll: Kaduna Bans Movement, Tightens Security

The Kaduna State Security Council has imposed a movement restriction across the state from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2024. This is to ensure the peaceful and orderly conduct of the upcoming local government elections.

Samuel Aruwan, The commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, announced this on Friday in a statement, explaining that the restriction is aimed at ensuring a smooth and secure election process. The elections will take place in 255 wards across 23 local government councils, which are vital for the state’s development.

 

Aruwan emphasised that the restriction is necessary to prevent any potential security threats and ensure the success of the polls.

He said, “The restriction of movement is aimed at preventing any individual or group from disrupting the electoral process. We want to ensure that the elections are conducted peacefully and without any incidents.”

 

The commissioner stated that only individuals performing essential duties will be exempt from the restriction, provided they have proper identification and clearance. He added that the restriction applies to vehicular movement as well as commercial and other activities that could disrupt law and order.

He also mentioned that security forces have been positioned across the state to ensure compliance with the restrictions.

 

“We have deployed adequate security personnel to enforce the restriction and maintain law and order. We urge citizens to cooperate with security agents and report any suspicious activities,”

 

Aruwan advised the people to do away with activities that could disorganize public peace or affect the smooth conduct of the elections.

 

“We appeal to citizens to conduct themselves peacefully and avoid any actions that may be perceived as disruptive. Let’s work together to ensure a successful election.
