Super Eagles Rise to 36th in FIFA Rankings

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have risen three spots to 36th in the October FIFA world rankings.

According to the ranking table released Thursday on the global football governing body’s website, Nigeria accumulated 1503.29 points during the review period.

On October 11, the senior men’s national team achieved a 1-0 victory over Libya in Uyo in the first leg of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

This advancement also boosted Nigeria’s continental ranking, moving them up to fourth in Africa behind Morocco, Senegal, and Egypt, from sixth place in September.

Globally, October was an especially active month in football, with 32 qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, 47 for the 2025 CAF Africa Cup of Nations, 79 Nations League matches, and 17 friendlies played during the recent international window.

This flurry of matches resulted in numerous changes in the FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking.

The top three teams are closing in on each other, with Argentina still holding the 1st spot, though their lead over France (2nd) and Spain (3rd) has narrowed. England (4th), Brazil (5th), and Belgium (6th) have maintained their positions.

Within the top 10, Portugal (7th, up 1) and Italy (9th, up 1) are the only climbers, while the Netherlands (8th, down 1) and Colombia (10th, down 1) round out the list, with Germany (11th, up 2) just outside.

Elsewhere, Algeria (37th, up 4), Peru (38th, up 5), and Greece (42nd, up 6) have made notable gains, and Cameroon (49th, up 4) has re-entered the top 50.
