Gospel Singer Claims No Regret Over Murder of Girlfriend
The shocking confession of Timileyin Ajayi, a 32-year-old gospel singer, has sent waves of outrage across Nigeria after he admitted to brutally murdering Salome Adaidu, a 24-year-old National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member. Ajayi was apprehended with Salome’s severed head in a bag in Orozo, a community near Abuja. The gruesome crime, allegedly triggered by accusations of infidelity and a dispute over ₦3,000, has reignited debates about violence against women and the need for justice reform in the country.
Ajayi, currently in custody at the Nasarawa State Police Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Lafia, spoke openly about the crime in an interview. “I killed her because we didn’t spend much time together. It wasn’t premeditated; it just happened that day,” he claimed. According to Ajayi, Salome had been unfaithful, and his discovery of incriminating chats on her phone pushed him to act. Despite the brutality of his actions, he expressed no remorse, stating, “I have no regrets because life is reciprocal.”
Authorities confirmed that Salome had visited Ajayi at his residence in New Karshi, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, before the tragic incident occurred. Beyond beheading her, Ajayi reportedly dismembered her body, placing the parts into polythene bags, sparking suspicions of a ritualistic motive.
Salome’s family has vehemently denied any connection between her and Ajayi. Her elder sister, Esther Adaidu, described Ajayi as a complete stranger, saying, “We don’t know this Timileyin. We had never seen or heard of him until we were informed he murdered our sister.” Salome’s uncle, Samson Adaidu, recounted the horrifying details, expressing shock at the extent of the mutilation. “He didn’t just kill her; he butchered her. It looks like he was preparing the remains for something sinister. We demand justice.”
The family has called for swift legal action to ensure that Ajayi is held accountable.
The confession has sparked widespread condemnation and outrage on social media. Many questioned Ajayi’s claims of a romantic relationship with Salome and pointed to allegations that he may have lured her under false pretences, including hosting a karaoke night he advertised on Telegram.
The case has also highlighted concerns over the role of individuals in spiritual or religious positions. Critics have demanded increased scrutiny and accountability for those in such roles, as Ajayi was reportedly a gospel singer. His actions have raised alarm about the potential abuse of trust by individuals perceived as morally upright.

The Nasarawa State Police Command has reassured the public of a thorough investigation. Police spokesperson SP Ramhan Nansel stated, “The investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be charged in court upon its conclusion. We urge anyone with relevant information to come forward.”
The police’s promise to deliver justice aims to bring closure to Salome’s grieving family and address public concerns over the efficiency of law enforcement in tackling violent crimes.
Salome was a recent graduate serving in Abuja with Nicon Insurance. Her untimely death has reignited national conversations about the safety of women and the urgent need for societal reforms to address gender-based violence. Many Nigerians are calling for harsher penalties to deter such crimes and ensure justice for victims.
As the investigation unfolds, the case stands as a tragic reminder of the vulnerabilities women face and the need for collective action to safeguard lives and ensure justice in Nigeria.
