‘Omije Oju Mi’: Bunmi Akinnanu Opens Up on Her first Video
Renowned Nigerian gospel artist and evangelist Bunmi Akinnanu Adeoye shared her inspiring journey to success, revealing the challenges she faced along the way. She disclosed that she had to borrow clothes and jewellery to shoot her music videos, including the popular Omije Oju Mi.
In a viral video, the singer, speaking in Yoruba, recounted her personal stories of resilience and determination. She explained how these struggles shaped her character and fuelled her drive to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
She recounted, “ “If you hear my story, you will weep along with me. I don’t like granting interviews because, at some point, everyone involved—the interviewer, interviewee, and cameraman—will break down and cry. My story is very bad.”
The gospel singer continued, “All the clothes I wore in the song Ibere Nla were borrowed.”
“If you watch the video, the blue-black iro and buba I wore was trendy at the time, but it wasn’t mine. In fact, if you look closely, another person wore it among the dancers in the video.”
She also explained how some of the things she used in her videos came with conditions from the real owner.
“The person I borrowed them from was in the video, standing behind me. She warned me, ‘If you lose it, you are dead.’ At one point, the earring fell, and she signalled me to pick it up quickly because it must not get lost.”
The singer Bunmi Akinnanu Adeoye, popularly known as Omije Ojumi, was born on November 19 in Lagos State, Nigeria.
Bunmi pursued her education at Lagos State University (LASU), where she studied Industrial Relations and Personnel Management. She later worked in a bank, dedicating herself to her job with the discipline instilled by her strict parents.
From a young age, it was revealed to her mother through prophecies from men of God that Bunmi would one day serve as a servant of God. During her high school years, she was actively involved in her church (ECWA), particularly as a member of the choir.
However, God’s divine purpose for her life soon became clear. She received a song to sing for her church, ECWA, which marked the beginning of her musical career. The song was part of her debut album, Omije Oju Mi, which brought her into the spotlight and gave her the name she is widely known today.

Many of her songs have gained widespread popularity.
In her new song titled Da Iji Duro (“Stop the Storm”), she joins millions of Nigerians in praying for God’s intervention to bring an end to the pandemic affecting the world and Nigeria in particular.
Now recognised as Bunmi Omije Oju Mi, she has a large following both in Nigeria and the diaspora.
Bunmi Akinnanu quickly became a household name and a popular choice among various churches, often invited by renowned men of God to minister at their crusades. She also began receiving numerous invitations to perform at other Christian events.
In no time, she established herself as a professional gospel artist. She has released five albums, including Dabira, Alatileyinmi, Ma-Sunkun-Mo, Tujuka, and Testimony. Her latest album is titled O ti Mure Wa.
