Police Launch Investigation On Ogun Pastor’s Murder

Police begin manhunt for Ogun pastor’s killers The Ogun State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the killer of Yomi Adetula, a prophet from the Celestial Church of Christ’s Hebrew Parish, who was shot dead during a Sunday service in Idiroko, Ogun State. According to a statement from the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the fatal attack took place on the morning of Sunday, January 18, 2025. Odutola explained that the Divisional Police Officer of Idiroko received a distress call about the incident at the Celestial Church located along Old Baggage Road, Odo Eran, Idiroko.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the 54-year-old prophet lying in a pool of blood, with his body riddled with bullet wounds. investigators also noted that his head had been brutally hacked with an axe after he was shot. Witnesses told detectives that the assailant entered the church brandishing a long double-barrelled shotgun. In the chaos that followed, the gunman fired at the prophet, fatally wounding him before fleeing the scene toward the border area.

 

“When we received the report, police officers raced to the scene and saw the victim’s lifeless body in the pool of blood that stained his white garment lying face down,” Odutola said. “On careful observation, his body was riddled with bullets, and his head was not spared.

To ensure the victim was dead, it was mangled with an axe.” The body was later taken to the General Hospital Mortuary in Ilaro, and the area has since returned to normal. Authorities are continuing efforts to track down the suspects, and Odutola assured that more clues would emerge as investigations unfold.

A source within the Social Orientation and Safety Corps (SOSC) in Ogun State confirmed that Adetula was a senior officer in the corps and a key witness in an ongoing legal case involving a suspect in the state. “He is one of our senior officers in Idiroko. He was a key witness in an ongoing litigation,” the source told reporters.
