In response to the tragic tanker fire disaster at Dikko Junction in Niger State, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has delivered essential relief materials to support the victims. The materials, which include food, non-food items, and medical supplies, are intended to aid in the treatment of the injured and provide relief to the families affected by the disaster.
The latest update on the incident reveals that 98 people lost their lives, 69 others sustained various degrees of injury, and 20 shops were destroyed in the inferno.
During her visit to the community, NEMA’s Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, officially flagged off the distribution of the relief items. She emphasised that this effort aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive and represents the Federal Government’s ongoing commitment to supporting the community’s recovery from the disaster.
Mrs. Umar stated, “Based on the report of the first rapid assessment carried out by officials of NEMA, NSEMA, and other first responders, we have come to provide immediate assistance of food and non-food items, including medicaments, to the affected families.”
She extended her sympathies to the people of the community, assuring them that NEMA would coordinate comprehensive recovery efforts. “Besides mourning the tragic incident, it also serves as a reminder for communities to prioritise disaster preparedness and to proactively safeguard lives and property,” she added.
