Taraba Police Rescue Hostages from Kidnappers in Forest Raid

In a daring operation, Taraba State Police successfully raided a kidnapper’s den in Zambana Forest, rescuing seven hostages after a fierce clash with the criminals. The operation carried out on January 30, 2025, was led by the Mararraba Donga Division, with the support of local hunters and vigilantes. The team acted on credible intelligence to carry out the rescue mission.

According to SP Abdullahi Usman, the Police Public Relations Officer, the rescue mission unfolded as follows:

“Acting on credible information, the DPO of Mararraba Donga mobilised a team for a rescue operation in Zambana Forest. The team encountered the kidnappers, who fled under intense gunfire, abandoning the victims. As a result, seven kidnapped individuals were rescued unharmed.”

The victims rescued during this operation include Lookman Adamu Abdullahi (27), Abdulmalik Sani (24), and Salisu Musa (32) from Jalingo LGA.

Hussaini Musa (35) and Yusuf Musa (21) from Bissula Village, Kurmi LGA.

Rimamshong Sunday (42) from Lissam, Ussa LGA, and Eze Ifeanyi (38) from Maihula, Bali LGA.

Additional Rescue Operation

Following this success, another operation on January 31, 2025, led by ASP Nuhu Barde, targeted a kidnappers’ hideout near the Plateau State border. This mission led to the rescue of Lamido Sarkin Fulani, who had been bound by his captors. The victim was unharmed and taken to Andami Primary Healthcare Centre for medical treatment.

Police Praise and Ongoing Efforts

Taraba State Commissioner of Police, CP Ukachi P. Opara, commended the bravery and dedication of the officers, hunters, and vigilantes involved in the operations. He emphasised the command’s commitment to eradicating kidnapping and other criminal activities from the state. CP Opara urged residents to stay vigilant, remain law-abiding, and report any credible information that could aid in capturing the remaining suspects.

Efforts to track down and arrest the criminals responsible for these kidnappings are ongoing.
