Pope Francis Sends Message to Ukraine from Hospital bed

Pope Francis marked the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine from his hospital bed, while the Vatican organises a prayer service for his healing.

During Sunday prayers at the Vatican, a message was read on his behalf in which the Pope described the war’s anniversary as a “painful and shameful occasion for the whole of humanity.”

“As I reiterate my closeness to the Ukrainian people, I invite you to remember the victims of all armed conflicts,” he said, “and to pray for the gift of peace in Palestine, Israel and throughout the Middle East, Myanmar, Kivu, and Sudan.”

The Vatican has announced that a rosary prayer for Pope Francis will take place in St. Peter’s Square at 9 p.m. on February 24, led by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s secretary of state.

Meanwhile, Catholics have filled the chapel at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital—where the Pope is being treated—for a Eucharistic Adoration and Holy Mass.

According to the Vatican, Pope Francis remains in good spirits but is receiving oxygen and being treated for a kidney infection.
