51 Christians Killed by Suspected Jihadists In Plateau State
A horrifying midnight massacre has left 51 Christians dead in the Zikke community, Kwall District of Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State. The attack, which occurred between 12:00 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. on April 14, 2025, was carried out by suspected jihadist insurgents who stormed the village under the cover of darkness.
Victims of the attack included women, the elderly, and children as young as three years old. Entire families were reportedly wiped out in the rampage, including 4-year-old Nema Stephen and 3-year-old Jacob Moses. The incident has sent shockwaves across Nigeria and sparked outrage both locally and internationally.
The Irigwe Youth Movement, through its National Publicity Secretary, Joseph Chudu Yonkpa, released the full list of the deceased, which has since been widely circulated on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
The massacre is part of an alarming pattern of religiously motivated violence in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, where Christian communities have increasingly become targets of coordinated attacks. This latest tragedy has reignited calls for urgent and decisive action from the Nigerian government and the international community.
Human rights advocates and Christian organisations have strongly condemned the killings, urging immediate security interventions and demanding justice for the victims. Social media users tagged influential platforms and institutions, including @USinNigeria and @ChristianEmerg1, calling for accountability and global attention to the escalating violence.
As survivors mourn the loss of their loved ones and bury the dead, fears of further attacks loom large. Community members are pleading for protection while the nation once again grapples with the devastating consequences of unchecked insecurity.
