Kwara NYSC Orientation Camp Destroyed by Rainstorm
A powerful rainstorm has caused massive destruction at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Yikpata, Kwara State, damaging properties worth millions of naira.
According to Tribune Online, the heavy downpour, which began early Saturday morning, was accompanied by strong winds that tore through the camp, leaving a trail of destruction. Sources revealed that key facilities badly affected included the multipurpose hall, the administrative block, the camp mosque, and several hostel blocks that house corps members and camp officials.
The rainstorm also severely damaged the camp’s saluting dais and the newly constructed volleyball court, which had been one of the major attractions within the premises.
In a particularly devastating incident, two vehicles belonging to camp officials were crushed and rendered beyond repair after a large tree, uprooted by the strong winds, fell on them.
An NYSC official at the camp called for urgent intervention, suggesting that relevant authorities should promptly assess the damage and carry out necessary repairs to restore facilities and ensure the smooth continuation of camp activities.
