Benue Violence: Pastor And Wife Murdered In Militia Raid
A deadly attack in the Afia community, located in the Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, has claimed the lives of at least four people, including a pastor and his wife. The assault was reportedly carried out by a notorious Tiv militia known locally as “Government”.
According to eyewitness accounts and security sources, the suspected militia member, allegedly armed with an AK-47 rifle, stormed his native village and began shooting indiscriminately. He moved from one village to another, targeting and killing residents on sight.
Among the victims were Reverend Teryima Iorgaghem and his wife, whose deaths have drawn significant attention and condemnation. Two other villagers also lost their lives during the brutal onslaught.
In response to the attack, troops from the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with a joint team of 40 operatives from Operation Zenda Joint Task Force (JTF), Operation Anyam Nyor, and supporting units, were swiftly deployed to the area to track down the assailant.

Despite the immediate military response and heavy security presence, the suspect managed to flee the scene and remains at large at the time of this report.

Security operatives confirmed that four individuals were killed in the attack. An investigation is currently underway to uncover the full circumstances of the incident and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
Meanwhile, security forces have assured residents of Ukum and neighbouring communities of intensified patrols and enhanced security measures to prevent further violence.
