Celebrated Police officer ACP Amah, converts to Islam

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Daniel Amah, renowned for his integrity in rejecting a $200,000 bribe during a high-profile robbery investigation, has embraced Islam. His conversion ceremony took place on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at the palace of the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II.

At the private event, Amah adopted the Islamic name “Muhammad” and was formally welcomed into the faith. The Emir encouraged him to deepen his knowledge of Islamic principles, practice its core tenets, and embody its values in his daily life. He highlighted the importance of observing the five pillars of Islam, including belief in Allah, daily prayers, fasting during Ramadan, pilgrimage to Mecca, and giving to charity. The Emir also offered prayers for Amah’s continued guidance and urged him to honour his parents, regardless of their religious beliefs.

Amah became a symbol of integrity in April 2022 while serving as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State. During an investigation involving armed robbery suspects who had stolen over ₦300 million, Amah refused a $200,000 bribe from the perpetrators. The robbery involved $750,000 in cash stolen from a Bureau De Change operator. His decision to reject the bribe earned widespread commendation and recognition across the country.

In recognition of his exemplary conduct, the Police Service Commission elevated Amah from Chief Superintendent of Police to Assistant Commissioner of Police on November 10, 2022. His unwavering integrity also led to national acclaim when former President Muhammadu Buhari presented him with the 2022 Public Service Integrity Award. The award, endorsed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) under its chairman, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, celebrated Amah’s moral courage as a model for public service.

The Emir of Kano’s blessing at the conversion ceremony reflects the widespread admiration Amah has garnered for his actions. By joining Islam, Amah strengthens his moral framework while remaining a shining example of honesty and accountability in Nigeria’s public sector.

ACP Amah’s journey, marked by his steadfast commitment to ethical values, continues to inspire both within and beyond the policing community. As he embraces his new faith, the hope is that he will maintain his integrity and serve as a bridge of unity in Nigeria’s diverse cultural and religious landscape.
