Couple Finds Hope as Holy Statues Survive Wildfire
In a moment of profound loss, Peter and Jackie Halpin, residents of Los Angeles, discovered hope when two statues on their property—the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph—survived a devastating wildfire. The couple, who lived in their home for 37 years, was forced to evacuate as the Eaton Fire rapidly advanced. When they returned, they found their house reduced to rubble, but the two statues remained intact amidst the ashes, offering a poignant symbol of resilience.
A video of the family standing together and singing the Catholic hymn “Regina Caeli” has captured widespread attention online, resonating with viewers around the world.
Peter Halpin recounted the emotional moment during an interview with Fox News. “When we arrived and saw the destruction, it was remarkable to see the statues of the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph standing, barely touched except for some singes. It felt like a sign, and we used the moment to come together in prayer.”
The Halpin family had dedicated their home to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, reflecting their deep-rooted faith. Singing the Regina Caeli, a hymn cherished by the family for years, became a way to honour their faith and express gratitude. Peter explained, “We never intended for this moment to go viral—it was deeply personal. But the outpouring of love and support from the community has been truly overwhelming and heartwarming.”

The day before the Halpins returned to their property, one of their children visited the site and shared a photo of the surviving statues. Jackie Halpin described the moment she saw the image: “I fell to my knees, overcome with emotion. It wasn’t prayer—it was just the sheer impact of the moment. That’s when I knew we needed to go there and thank God for the years we had in that home.”
Over the years, the Halpins raised six children—three sons and three daughters—on the property and are now grandparents to 14 grandchildren. Although their home is gone, the statues stand as a testament to their faith and the memories they built as a family.
