Ekiti Police Officer, Wife Die in Violent Domestic Dispute
A tragic case of domestic violence has shocked residents of Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, as a senior police officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Leramo Caleb, and his wife, Tate, lost their lives during a violent altercation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 18, 2024, in the Ita-Eku area along Igirigiri Road.
According to reports, the couple had an intense argument over allegations of infidelity, which quickly spiralled out of control. Witnesses claim that during the altercation, Tate allegedly attacked her husband, causing severe injuries by cutting off his manhood.
In what appeared to be a desperate act of retaliation, the enraged ASP Caleb grabbed a machete and brutally hacked his wife to death, inflicting fatal injuries to her head and face. The gruesome nature of the attack has left the community in shock, with many struggling to understand how a domestic dispute could escalate to such a tragic level.
The Ekiti State Police Command has officially confirmed the incident. Speaking to the press, the state police spokesperson, SP Sunday Abutu, provided details about the case.
“We received a report about a couple found dead, and our team immediately proceeded to the scene. The bodies were taken to the hospital, where they were confirmed dead,” Abutu said.
He further disclosed that a knife was recovered from the crime scene, which suggests that a violent struggle had taken place. He assured the public that investigations have commenced to unravel the full details of the incident.

Further reports indicate that ASP Caleb was in his second marriage, which, unfortunately, ended in this heartbreaking manner. Friends and neighbours have described the couple’s relationship as turbulent, with previous disagreements that never reached such a tragic peak.
The remains of both the officer and his wife have been transferred to a mortuary at an undisclosed hospital, while authorities continue their investigations.
This shocking incident has sparked discussions on the growing cases of domestic violence in Nigerian homes. Many believe that increased awareness, counselling, and conflict resolution strategies are necessary to curb such tragic occurrences. Experts emphasise the importance of seeking mediation or professional help in marital conflicts before they escalate into violence.
The Ekiti State Police Command has urged couples and families experiencing domestic disputes to seek intervention from appropriate authorities rather than resorting to violence.
As investigations continue, this incident serves as a grim reminder of the devastating consequences of unresolved conflicts in relationships.
