EMBRACING ABSTINENCE IN THE CHRISTIAN FAITH
Introduction:
In the Christian faith, abstinence holds a significant place as a choice rooted in values, faith, and the pursuit of purity. This blog aims to explore the profound meaning of abstinence within the Christian context and how it serves as a journey of faith and obedience to God’s teachings.
Biblical Fundamentals:
18 nFlee from sexual immorality. Every other sin 1 a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person osins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 rfor you were bought with a price.
In this verse, Apostle Paul emphasizes that sexual sin is unique because it involves the misuse of one’s own body, which is a temple of the Holy Spirit. Paul reminds us believers that we are not our masters; rather, we belong to God, having been purchased with a price, which is the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.
Therefore, he urges them to glorify God in their bodies by living in a way that aligns with His moral standards. This chapter emphasizes the importance of honouring God with our bodies and leading a life free of sexual immorality.
Purity of Heart and Mind:
Philippians 4:8 (KJV) Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
The Holy Bible encourages Christians to keep their minds on positive and virtuous things. He mentions attributes such as honesty, dignity, righteousness, purity, loveliness, and admirability.
Christians are encouraged to create a mindset that correlates with God’s principles and fosters a healthy and uplifting outlook on life by focusing their thoughts on these good traits. This passage emphasizes the significance of positive thinking, which reflects the Christian virtues of integrity, purity, and appreciation.
Faith and Trust in God’s Plan:
If you ask some Christians why they have refused to partake in abstinence, they will tell you that they had to know some ungodly details about their partners or just to verify their partners. This shows their lack of faith in God. it shows they don’t have faith in god’s plans for their relationships. If you claim to love god, your faith must be unmoveable. Abstinence shows you trust god to takeover your relationship.
Covenantal Relationships:
Abstinence in partnerships represents a shared commitment between partners to honour God and each other, rather than a personal decision. Covenantal partnerships based on abstinence emphasize mutual respect, Christ-centered love, and a dedication to purity. Couples consciously lay the groundwork for marriage by valuing emotional connection, communication, and shared values. Individuals who practice abstinence actively contribute to a relationship based on biblical ideals of love, commitment, and purity, trusting in God’s plan and finding strength in their shared faith.
