EXPLOSION ROCKS IBADAN- MALLS IN RUMBLES
The Oyo State Government has allayed the fears of residents of the state capital city, Ibadan, following an explosion, saying it was on top of the situation.
Yesterday, Tuesday 18th January 2023, Ibadan experienced a sudden explosion around the Adeyi area of Bodija between the hours of 7pm and 8pm which sent ripple effects across the Oyo State capital. The aftermath left places like Domino’s Pizza, Ventura Mall and other establishment in disarray with shattered glasses, damaged residential buildings, Hotels and vehicles.
However, residents of the States capital took to their social media to share videos of the impact of the explosion.

As the news spread, people started guessing about what caused it. Some thought it was a car explosion, others said it might be a gas explosion from a gas plant beside Ventura Mall and there were even wild ideas about rapture or a bomb.
Shocking videos circulated online showing the destruction and people getting hurt. Meanwhile, some eyewitnesses stated that the blast was so heavy that people around Mokola, UI, and Akobo felt its vibration.
Nigerian Medical Doctor and social media influencer, Dr Chinonso Egemba popularly known as Aproko Doctor has also urged other medical personnel in Ibadan and its environs to mobilize themselves and to Adeyi Avenue, Bodija, for the sake of the Explosion victims who need their help.

The Oyo State Government quickly addressed the situation via their Twitter account, assuring everyone to keep calm and explained that they were investigating the cause of the explosion. They promised to share updates once they have more information on the incident.

Amidst all these confusions, the city is left waiting for official details to understand what happened to clear assumptions and doubts.
The Oyo State Governor, His Excellency Seyi Makinde was present at the scene of the explosion and has deployed first responders and all relevant agencies within Oyo State to carry out comprehensive research and rescue operations.
The Governor also directed that the medical bills of all victims be covered by the government and there will be provisions of temporary accommodation for those whose houses were affected and ensure that they are supported to rebuild their lives.
