Father Sylvester Okechukwu’s Killer Confesses To The Crime.
A key suspect in the abduction and murder of Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu has admitted to orchestrating the crime, citing financial hardship as his reason. Currently detained at the headquarters of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) in Jos, the suspect disclosed that he needed ₦200,000 to resolve a personal issue.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), he confessed to arranging the abduction by enlisting criminals from outside the community but denied instructing them to kill the priest. “Fr Okechukwu was living in our house at Tachira. I masterminded his kidnapping because I needed money. I invited some guys from other places to assist me, but I didn’t ask them to kill him. I don’t know why they did,” he said.
Another suspect in custody confirmed that he was recruited for the crime but insisted he was not involved in the killing. Their confessions have ignited outrage and grief in the Tachira community, where Fr Okechukwu was highly regarded.
Security operatives have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to ensure all those involved are brought to justice. The tragic murder of Father Sylvester Okechukwu has heightened concerns over the safety of clergy members in Kaduna State, as incidents of kidnapping and killings continue to rise in the region.
