Fintiri: ‘Nigerians Are Suffering, Policies Not Working’
The Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, on Thursday, expressed concern over the hardship Nigerians are facing, attributing the suffering to the Federal Government’s ineffective economic policies. Fintiri stated that the policies under President Bola Tinubu’s administration are causing severe difficulties for the populace.
He made the remarks during a meeting of the National Reconciliation Committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with governors from the North-East and other key stakeholders in Bauchi. The governors of Bauchi and Taraba, as well as the acting PDP National Chairman, Onyilola, were present.
Addressing the gathering, the committee’s chairman, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, highlighted the party’s commitment to overcoming its internal challenges. He emphasised that the committee’s goal is to rebuild a strong, united PDP that can effectively contest the 2027 general elections. “The main purpose of the committee is to reach out to the aggrieved members and those with concerns to re-establish a formidable political party in the country,” Oyinlola said.
Nigeria’s Bleeding—Fintiri
Echoing Oyinlola’s sentiment, Fintiri underscored the timeliness of the reconciliation effort, given the ongoing difficulties within the party. He also expressed deep frustration with the country’s leadership and the economic situation, stressing that the nation is suffering due to the administration’s policies.
“Nigeria is bleeding. We are suffering, there is too much anger, and the economic policy is not working,” Fintiri declared. He reiterated his call for the federal government to reassess its approach, stating, “That is why we always call on the federal government to reconsider some of these economic policies that are only putting hardship on Nigerians.”
Fintiri emphasised that power is a divine privilege and should be exercised responsibly. He added, “Whatever will make us cry must not be part of your policy because the country belongs to us. It does not belong to the World Bank, IMF, or the international community.” He urged the government to prioritise policies that would alleviate, rather than exacerbate, Nigerians’ suffering.
