Al-Ahli Saudi FC star Robert Firmino has become the pastor of an evangelical church in Brazil. Last month, the former Liverpool striker conducted a consecration service at his founding church in Maceio. The Premier League champion and winner of the Champions League expressed his appreciation for the event that welcomed him to his new pastoral position, describing it as “a memorable and unforgettable night.”

Firmino wrote on Instagram, “This church was born in the heart of God, and we are incredibly grateful for the privilege of witnessing up close all that the Lord has done.”

“Now to him who can do infinitely more than all that we ask or think, according to his power that works within us,” the Bible states in Ephesians 3:20. Since we are without merit, it’s all about his power. God understands that opening a church or holding a ministerial position has never been our intention,” he said.

Since his “encounter with Christ,” Firmino continued, there has been a “longing” that “burns in our hearts” to share “this love that has reached out to everyone.”

“We now have an additional desire and obligation… to serve as pastors who follow God’s heart and collaborate with the Kingdom,” he declared, expressing his shock at “the extent of God’s kindness towards us.”

He truly chooses the improbable! I’m grateful, Jesus. We are grateful to Pastors Jairo and Keila for encouraging us and having faith in us.”

Three years ago, Firmino and his spouse, Larissa Pereira, established Manah Church. According to 3news.com, Firmino was christened in 2020 in a swimming pool at the residence of his former teammate Alisson Becker.

Firmino declared during his baptism that “Jesus is love.” There’s no justification. Simply put, trust it. Simply have faith and sense the Holy Spirit.”

Firmino won the 2021–22 Champions League, the FA Cup, the EFL Cup, and the Premier League while playing for Liverpool. He also received 55 caps for Brazil. With 82 goals, he also holds the record for being the highest-scoring Brazilian in Premier League history.

Firmino is still playing soccer, even in his new capacity as a spiritual leader. For the next two years of his contract, he will play for Al-Ahli, a team in the Saudi Pro League.
