FUNKE AKINDELE UNVEILS NEW FILM HOUSE

Olufunke Ayotunde Akindele, widely recognized as Jenifa, is a Nigerian artist involved in filmmaking, acting, directing, producing, and politics. Funke Akindele won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. for her role in Jenifa, which brought her to fame.

In 2022, Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for governor, chose her as his running mate for the 2023 Lagos state election.

The Nigerian filmmaker and actress has launched her film production house called The Funke Akindele Network (FAAN).

Through an Instagram post, the actress made an exciting announcement about her latest venture and referred to FAAN as a powerhouse. She also revealed that The Funke Akindele Network has already participated in the filming of the 2022 comedy-drama Battle on Buka Street, which became the highest-grossing Nollywood film, earning ₦640 million. Furthermore, it was made available on Prime Video earlier in 2023.

 

She also announced her upcoming project coming to the cinemas in December.

Fans of Nollywood and Funke Akindele’s Network eagerly anticipate its theatrical debut on December 15, 2023, in cinemas nationwide. The storyline for the holiday drama remains undisclosed, but the film boasts an all-star cast.

Her movie Battle on Buka Street currently holds the record of becoming the highest-grossing movie of all time in Nigeria, breaking the two-year record of her movie Omo Ghetto: The Saga.

According to a statement, broadcast by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN), in February 2023, the movie grossed over N640,000,000 after maintaining its number-one spot for many consecutive weeks. Funke has the most wins at award shows like AMVCA and NEA Awards.

She is the producer and director of two of the highest-grossing Nollywood Movies of all time, Battle on Buka Street and Omo Ghetto: The Saga which is the fourth and fifth highest-grossing film in the West African region.
