Gas Explosion In Lagos Injures 15 People, Including Children.

A gas explosion that occurred on Sunday afternoon in the Ijora-Badia area of Lagos State has left at least 15 people, including children, with several degrees of injuries.

The incident took place around 4:20 p.m. on Amosu Street, located within the Apapa Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA). The explosion was reportedly caused by a leaking 25kg gas cylinder inside a small shop, which ignited after coming in contact with an open flame.

According to eyewitnesses, the initial blast rapidly spread to five other gas cylinders, triggering a fierce blaze that engulfed the building. The affected structure, which houses a 15-room studio apartment and seven shops, was severely damaged.

Emergency responders from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service arrived promptly at the scene and succeeded in putting out the flames and evacuating the remaining gas cylinders to prevent further danger.

Speaking on the incident, the agency’s director, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed that the explosion resulted from the improper handling of the gas cylinder. She explained that the gas leak attracted a nearby flame, setting off the blast.
Adeseye also noted that while the injuries varied in severity, none of the victims were in critical condition. Some received immediate first aid, while others were transported to nearby hospitals for further medical attention.

Authorities have urged residents and business owners to observe proper safety protocols when handling gas and flammable substances to avoid future tragedies.
