Gospel Singer Destroys Gifted Car, Says It Didn’t Please God
Popular Tanzanian gospel musician Goodluck Gozbert has ignited a firestorm of controversy after publicly burning a Mercedes Benz he received as a gift. The singer claims he was prompted by divine warnings and that the vehicle was hindering his spiritual well-being.
Gozbert received the luxury vehicle from Prophet Geor Davie in 2021, a gesture of appreciation for the singer’s talent and ministry. However, the singer now claims that the gift had a negative impact on his life, leading him to take the drastic step of destroying the car.
He said at the time, “I want to let people know that the food I ate that day during the service and the car gift displeased God. It was not right for me to partake in it.”
In a video circulating online, Gozbert is seen dousing the Mercedes Benz with fuel before setting it ablaze. The singer explained that he had received repeated “warnings” from God, particularly during a period of fasting, instructing him to get rid of the car. He stated that the vehicle had become a source of negativity and was affecting his relationship with God.
He addressed the controversial issue, saying, “I did not have any relations with the preacher up until when he gifted me the vehicle.” We receive invites from many different preachers and he is among them.”
“It was a surprise. But I saw nothing wrong as the wise men brought Jesus gifts.”

He went further. “People who hated me started wishing bad on me. They started praying that I have an accident. They were asking, How did they give me a vehicle yet other people are struggling?”
“I changed the colour from silver to black. I don’t love cars and driving them. I would occasionally take it for a spin.” I wondered why people were following up on my license plate number. Did they want to kill me?”
He concluded, “Only spiritual people would understand. I received instructions twice but I did not heed them.”
“I finally listened.”
The incident has sparked mixed reactions from the public. Some have praised Gozbert for his bold act of faith, while others have criticised him for destroying a valuable gift. Some have even questioned the motives behind the gift itself.
Gozbert has remained steadfast in his decision, stating that he was acting on divine instructions. He emphasised that his spiritual well-being was more important than material possessions. The singer’s actions have undoubtedly ignited a debate about faith, materialism, and the interpretation of divine guidance.
