LASEPA Shuts Down Lagos Church Over Noise Pollution
Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has taken action against Flame Gospel Ministry International (Centre of Grace) after persistent complaints from residents. The enforcement was confirmed by the General Manager of the LASEPA, Tunde Ajayi, in response to grievances raised on social media.
Ajayi, reacting to an online complaint, simply wrote: “Sealed!” This came after a resident, Ms Sururoh, expressed her frustration over the church’s excessive noise levels, which had reportedly disturbed the neighborhood for over a year.
Ms Sururoh took to social media to highlight her ordeal, stating, “Dear Lagos State Government, this is long overdue. We’ve been reporting this case for over a year now and nothing has been done. We even approached them about the noise disturbance, and instead of reducing it, they increased it. Imagine going to bed after a stressful day with a headache, only to be woken up past 10 PM by loud noise from the church. I have to wake up by 4 AM!”
Another social media user, @R_ael_R, also shared a similar experience, revealing that a neighbour in their estate recently held a seven-day vigil, concluding with a full church service from 10 AM to 6 PM on a Monday.
This recent enforcement is part of a broader initiative by the Lagos State Government to curb noise pollution from religious centres, clubs, and event venues across the state. Earlier reports indicated that LASEPA had shut down multiple churches, mosques, and nightclubs for violating environmental noise regulations.

In January, the agency sealed several establishments, including places of worship and entertainment venues, citing their failure to adhere to acceptable noise levels. The agency emphasised that the move was necessary to uphold environmental laws and ensure that residents enjoy a peaceful and conducive living environment.
The closure of Flame Gospel Ministry International has reignited discussions among Lagos residents, with many calling for stricter enforcement against noise pollution. Some have urged the government to implement more stringent measures to ensure compliance, particularly by religious and entertainment establishments that disrupt public peace.
LASEPA continues to emphasise the importance of maintaining a noise-free environment and has encouraged affected residents to report cases of noise disturbances to the appropriate authorities. The Lagos State Government remains committed to enforcing environmental laws and ensuring that all residents enjoy a serene and habitable environment.
