Man killed in Ibadan, Bodija Area in Suspected Cult Clash.
A tragic murder occurred in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Sunday, sending shockwaves through residents of the Bodija area. The incident took place near the popular Cocobean Lounge, where a man was reportedly pursued by unknown assailants and fatally shot.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the victim was chased down before being gunned down at the scene. The incident caused panic in the neighborhood, drawing a crowd of onlookers. However, officers from the Oyo State Police Command quickly arrived to restore order and disperse the gathering.
In an official statement, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Adewale Osifeso, confirmed that the attack was suspected to be cult-related. He stated that investigations had commenced immediately to uncover the cause of the violence.
“The Oyo State Police Command has launched an investigation into the Bodija murder incident that occurred in the early hours of today, February 2, 2025,” Osifeso said.
He further revealed that preliminary findings indicated that the victim was an unidentified man who was chased and shot a few blocks away from the lounge. He also addressed rumours circulating on social media, refuting claims that police had mistakenly shot and killed a bystander, reportedly a student, while dispersing the crowd.

“To clarify, there were no killings by the police, nor was there any recorded death of a student before, during, or after the lawful dispersal of onlookers,” Osifeso emphasised.
The case has now been handed over to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Iyaganku. A Deputy Commissioner of Police has been assigned to lead the inquiry under the directive of Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Sonubi Ayodele.
Osifeso assured the public that normalcy had been restored in the area, with security personnel deployed to prevent any further escalation. He also promised to provide updates as the investigation progresses.
