“Marriage is a Business decision”: Apostle Iren

Apostle Emmanuel Iren recently shared a powerful message on the importance of making wise choices when it comes to marriage. According to the apostle, marriage is not just an emotional bond but also a significant business decision. He said the person you marry can impact various aspects of your life, including your career, health, finances, and even your spiritual journey. In fact, there is nothing in your life that the wrong partner cannot negatively affect or destroy.

Apostle Iren recounted two cases involving devout Christians who suddenly fell gravely ill. After seeking medical attention, both were told by doctors that they had a limited time to live. Upon further examination, the doctors revealed they had contracted full-blown AIDS.

These individuals had lived disciplined lives, serving the Lord and following His teachings. However, because of the partner they chose, they were now facing life-threatening illnesses. The apostle highlighted that the person you marry can significantly alter your life, even in ways you may not immediately foresee.

He then drew a comparison to a principle used in the business world—KYC, which stands for “Know Your Customer.” He emphasised that the same principle should be applied when choosing a life partner.

The apostle coined the term KYP—”Know Your Partner.” He cautioned against taking your relationship or marriage lightly, advising that when you go on a date, you should not waste time with trivial questions.

Instead, you must ask the right questions, evaluate your partner seriously, and assess whether they align with your values and future goals. “This is your life,” he said, “and it’s worth the effort to ensure you are making a sound decision.”

The apostle also referenced a scripture from the Bible, Luke 14:28, which states, “For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it?” He noted that just as one would evaluate the cost before embarking on a major project, so too must individuals evaluate their decision to marry. He encouraged people not to let emotions alone drive their choices but to be thoughtful and discerning in their decision-making.

Apostle Iren further reminded the congregation that even in matters of divine intervention, it is okay to ask questions. He cited the example of Mary, who, upon being told by an angel that she would conceive a child, asked, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?” (Luke 1:34).

The apostle pointed out that it is essential to ask questions, even in extraordinary situations, to understand reality before proceeding. This is how we make better, informed decisions, he said.

Apostle Iren concluded by urging Christians to choose their partners wisely. While emotions and love are important, he stressed that intellect and reason must also play a role in choosing a life partner. He warned against letting lust, material things, or fleeting desires cloud one’s judgement. A life partner should complement your values, aspirations, and future goals. “Choose wisely,” he concluded, “because the right partner will contribute positively to your health, your spiritual life, and your overall well-being.”

Marriage, according to the apostle, is not just about love; it is a partnership in every aspect of life. It’s essential to ensure that the person you choose to walk through life with will support and uplift you, rather than hinder your potential.
