Mercy Chinwo’s Manager Declared Wanted by EFCC
Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court in Lagos has issued a warrant to arrest Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, the manager of popular gospel artist Mercy Chinwo, over allegations of a $345,000 fraud. This decision was made following a motion ex parte presented by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The EFCC, represented by Mrs. Bilikisu Buhari, brought the application under the provisions of Section 35(1)(c) of the 1999 Constitution, as well as Sections 35 through 39 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015. Mrs. Buhari explained that the warrant was necessary to compel Onyedikachukwu to appear in court and address the criminal charges against him.
The allegations stem from claims that Onyedikachukwu was involved in financial misconduct amounting to $345,000. While specific details of the fraudulent activities have not yet been disclosed, sources within the EFCC revealed that the case involves a breach of trust and misappropriation of funds.
Mercy Chinwo, a celebrated gospel artist known for hits such as Excess Love and Chinedum, has not released any public statements regarding her manager’s legal troubles. However, the case has garnered significant attention given her prominence in the music industry and the trust often placed in individuals managing high-profile artists.
Mrs. Buhari also indicated that if the EFCC fails to apprehend Onyedikachukwu, it plans to issue a public summons declaring him wanted. This action aims to ensure that the manager faces the allegations and participates in the judicial process.
