NIGERIA’S OSIMHEN & ASISAT SHINES AT CAF AWARD NIGHT ’23

Victor James Osimhen MFR, born 29 December 1998 is a Nigerian professional footballer who plays as a striker for Serie A club Napoli and the Nigerian national team. Considered one of the best strikers in the world, as well as one of the best players in the world, he is known for his elite finishing, pace, strength and athleticism.

Victor Osimhen is a Christian who began his senior career in Germany at VfL, Wolfsburg in 2017. He won the Golden Boot award at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup, which Nigeria won.

Osimhen made his senior international debut in June 2017 and played at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. He is currently the fourth all-time highest goal scorer of the Nigerian national team. On 29th May 2023, Osimhen was made a Member of the Federal Republic by President Muhammadu Buhari.

On 11th December 2023, Osimhen was awarded the Best male Player of the year in Africa at the 2023 Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) award night, the first Nigerian since Kanu Nnamkwo in 1999, 24 years earlier alongside his female Nigerian colleague, Asisat Oshoala.

Asisat Lamina Oshoala MON (born 9 October 1994) is a Nigerian professional footballer who plays as a striker for Spanish Liga F club Barcelona and the Nigeria women’s national team.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest African female footballers of all time and one of the best in the world, she is one of the most celebrated African female footballers of all time, having won the African Women’s Footballer of the Year a record six times.

She became the first African woman to win the Primera División’s Pichichi Trophy, and in August 2022, became the first African woman nominated to the Ballon d’Or.

On 11th December 2023, Asisat Oshoala was awarded the Best female Player of the year in Africa for the 6th time at the 2023 CAF award night.

She was crowned the Women’s Player of the Year to earn the feat at the award ceremony in the Moroccan city of Marrakech, continuing her dominance in the continent’s women’s game.

However, Victor Osimhen has been crowned the 2023 African Footballer of the Year in a momentous event that solidified his status as one of the best players in the world.
