Nike Adeyemi: “Women Worship Your Husbands Not Your Pastors”
Nike Adeyemi, founder of The Real Woman Foundation, has urged women to prioritise honouring their husbands in marriage, cautioning against unknowingly creating tension by excessively praising their pastors.
Adeyemi, who co-pastors Daystar Christian Centre in Lagos, Nigeria, alongside her husband, Pastor Sam Adeyemi, addressed the issue during a recent sermon. She warned women against elevating their spiritual leaders above their spouses, emphasizing that admiration for pastors should not come at the expense of marital harmony.
“Do not intimidate your husband with how spiritual you think your pastor is. Honour your own husband. Don’t worship your pastor,” Adeyemi stated.
She further explained that constantly glorifying one’s pastor in the presence of a spouse could lead to silent resentment.
“Women, in your house, don’t be celebrating your pastor in front of your husband—‘My pastor, my pastor, can your pastor ever stop?’ Your pastor is not perfect, I’m not perfect; it’s God that is helping us and you. When you do that, your husband might not tell you, but deep down, he wants to say, ‘Go and marry your pastor!’” she added.
Her message has sparked discussions on social media and within Christian communities about the significance of respect and emotional intelligence in marriage. While acknowledging the vital role pastors play in spiritual growth, Adeyemi stresses that such reverence should not overshadow appreciation for one’s spouse.

Beyond her work in ministry, Adeyemi is a passionate advocate for women’s empowerment. In 2001, she founded The Real Woman Foundation, which supports women facing distress, combats sexual violence, and provides shelter for abandoned children. The foundation also runs a rehabilitation and orphanage home, offering education, vocational training, and entrepreneurial opportunities to help women and children rebuild their lives.
As a mentor and thought leader, Adeyemi continues to guide women on building stronger homes while deepening their faith. Her message underscores the need for intentionality, mutual respect, and appreciation—fundamental values for fostering a harmonious and fulfilling marriage.
