Osun Bishop Stabbed to Death in Domestic Dispute
In a heartbreaking incident in Osogbo, Osun State, Bishop Shina Olaribigbe of Rapture Empowerment International lost his life in the early hours of Thursday while attempting to mediate a conflict between an estranged couple.
Sources reveal that the late bishop, who had often intervened to resolve disputes between the couple, was attacked by the husband during his latest intervention. The wife, a member of Olaribigbe’s church in the BCGA area, also served as an interpreter during church services. Despite living apart due to frequent quarrels, the couple had not finalised a legal divorce.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the incident occurred when the husband visited his wife’s residence, only to find Bishop Olaribigbe present in her room. Reports indicate that the husband, overwhelmed by anger and suspicion, accused the clergy of having an inappropriate relationship with his wife. In the ensuing confrontation, the man reportedly grabbed a knife and stabbed the bishop multiple times, leading to his immediate death.
A church member, speaking under anonymity for security reasons, stated that Bishop Olaribigbe had gone to check on the woman, who had been unwell. However, the tragic outcome shocked the congregation and community alike.
Following the incident, the husband and wife were taken into custody by officers at the Dugbe Police Division in Osogbo. The remains of the deceased were transported to the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital mortuary for further investigation.
The Osun State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident, explaining that preliminary findings indicated the pastor had been on the woman’s bed at the time of the attack. “The couple had a history of disputes. The pastor was reportedly trying to mediate when the husband arrived and, acting on suspicion, stabbed him,” she said.
