OYRTMA Officer Dies After Hit by Reckless Driver
A fatal road accident involving a traffic officer and a driver occurred in Oyo. Traffic officer, Fabunmi, a level four officer of the OYRTMA, was fatally killed on duty by a careless driver who had disobeyed traffic rules in Oyo last Saturday.
The accused driver of a black Benz with plate number LSD862JS was found to have disobeyed traffic rules, and in the process of attempting to escape from the OYRTMA officers, he reversed his car and with full force knocked down Fabunmi, who was coming towards the car.
The traffic officer was seriously wounded by this hit and was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital in Orogun, where he was given urgent paramedic treatment before he was transferred to another hospital in Ibadan, where he was later pronounced dead.
The Oyo state government, however, took up the case and commanded the immediate arrest of the driver on Monday.
The government also promised to make sure the reckless driver, who had not only disobeyed traffic rules but caused the death of Officer Fabunmi of the state traffic management authority, faces the wrath of the law.

Chairman of OYRTMA, Adekoya Adesagba, on Monday also narrated the painful incident that led to the death of the officer who was performing his duties and stated that the driver responsible will surely be convicted.
He explained, “OYRTMA officers are working tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of lives and property. Anyone who assaults or disrespects them will face the full wrath of the law.”
“No one who disrespects or assaults our officers will go unpunished. The suspect will be prosecuted.
“The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by traffic officers and the need for drivers to exercise caution and respect the law.
He pointed out that “the suspect has been arraigned at the Magistrate Court, Iyaganku, today (Monday), but since the court was on a weekday break, the case was adjourned till Thursday. The suspect remains in police custody.
“The driver, trying to escape after being apprehended by OYRTMA officers, reversed his vehicle and, in an attempt to zoom out, hit and killed Fabunmi, who had approached the vehicle at the front.”
