Police Arrest Woman for Razor Blade Assault on 10-Year-Old

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Mrs. Fatimah Odeale for allegedly inflicting razor blade wounds on a 10-year-old boy, Olasunkanmi Oluwadamilare, over claims that he stole ₦600.

CSP Omolola Odutola, the command’s spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Monday.

According to Odutola, a delegation from the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, Obada Oko, Abeokuta, led by its coordinator, Moses Olagbegi, reported the incident to the police on Monday. The delegation brought the young boy, a student of a private school, to the station with visible, severe cuts on his hand.

“When questioned, the boy revealed that his guardian, Mrs. Odeale, residing in the housing area of Obada Oko, was responsible for his injuries,” Odutola stated.

Upon interrogation, Odeale confessed to using a razor blade to inflict wounds on the boy as punishment for allegedly stealing ₦600 to buy ice cream for his friends.

The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has ordered an immediate investigation into the incident, condemning it as a clear case of child abuse.

The case is the second high-profile case of child abuse in the country in recent weeks. Last month, a primary school teacher named Stella Nwadigbo was arrested after a video of her assaulting her 3-year-old pupil surfaced online. Like Stella Nwadigbo, Mrs Fatimah Odeale has also been arrested and is still in police custody

The case has sparked outrage, with many calling for justice and the protection of vulnerable children from such acts of violence.
