Police IG Vows Justice for Officers killed in Borno Attack

The inspector general of police, Kayode Egbetokun, has commanded a thorough investigation and trackout on the criminals that caused the explosion at Nganzal Divisional Police Headquarters, leading to the death of two police personnel in Borno State. 

The sad incident killed at least two officers by name: Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat. The explosion that led to their death happened around 12:10 am on January 9, 2024. 

According to ASP Nahum Daso, the command’s public relations officer, he believes the attack on the divisional headquarters that led to the killing of the two police officers was carried out by Boko Haram insurgents. 

The IG of the police also condemned the attack, noting that anyone or any group that is found guilty of the explosion and death of the two officers will face the law and receive their punishment accordingly. 

In a statement released on Friday by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the force’s public relations officer, the inspector general expressed sympathy with the families of the two officers who were killed and promised them the adequate payment of their benefits and entitlements accordingly.  

The statement stated, “In a resolute response to the recent explosion attack at Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters, Borno State, on 9th January 2025, at about 12.10 am, which led to the death of two police officers, Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has condemned the attack and ordered an immediate and thorough clampdown on the perpetrators, as any cop-killers will go unpunished.

“The IGP expresses deep condolences to the families of the deceased officers, affirming that their sacrifice in the line of duty will not be forgotten, as their benefits and entitlements will be immediately paid to their families.”

He went further to state the inspector general had ordered that all necessary tools and officers be spread across the state for a thorough investigation and bring the culprits to book to the assistant inspector general of police in zone 15. Kenechukwu Onwuemelie

Adejobi stated The IGP has therefore directed the Zone 15 Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, fdc., to mobilise adequate resources and personnel and collaborate with other security agencies to ensure the perpetrators of this nefarious act are found and caused to face the full wrath of the law.”

The IG also promises that the force will continue to work tirelessly to protect lives and properties, adding that anyone who is found wanting in crimes will face the law. The search for the culprits of the explosion is still ongoing.
