Timi Dakolo: Where’s The Proof Of Gospel Artiste’s Invoice?

Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo has called out Pastor Femi Lazarus again after the cleric shared an invoice allegedly sent by a gospel artiste for a church ministration. The controversy erupted after Lazarus, in a recent sermon, criticized the high fees charged by some gospel musicians, using an invoice as an example.

According to the document, the unnamed gospel artiste demanded a $10,000 honorarium, a first-class flight ticket, and an executive hotel suite. Additionally, the artiste specified that they would be accompanied by a 40-person crew, for whom the inviting church was expected to provide flight tickets, feeding, and accommodation. The invoice also stated that 50% of the honorarium had to be paid upfront before the ministration could be confirmed, with the remaining balance due two days before the event.

Lazarus, who has been vocal about his disapproval of such financial demands in the gospel industry, used the invoice to emphasize what he perceives as the commercialization of gospel ministry. However, his claims did not sit well with Timi Dakolo, who has previously challenged the cleric over his views on gospel artistes.

Taking to Instagram, Dakolo questioned the authenticity of the invoice and demanded that Lazarus reveal the name of the gospel artiste involved. He argued that without naming the artiste, the claim lacked credibility and could be misleading. Dakolo also urged Nigerians not to accept such allegations without concrete evidence.

This incident has reignited the ongoing debate about whether gospel musicians should charge high fees for church ministrations. While some believe ministry should not come with excessive financial expectations, others argue that gospel artistes, like professionals in other fields, invest significantly in their craft and deserve fair compensation.

As the controversy continues, the clash between Dakolo and Lazarus highlights a larger conversation on the intersection of faith, ministry, and financial sustainability in the gospel music industry.
