Uromi Killings: Northern Man Threatens Retaliation
A viral video has emerged showing a northern man issuing a strong warning regarding the recent killing of 16 northerners in Uromi, Edo State.
In the video, the man justified the 2022 killing of Deborah Samuel in Sokoto. He said that Deborah Samuel was not killed without reason, insisting that she had blasphemed against Prophet Muhammad and that such an act warrants the death penalty under Islamic law.
The man further questioned why Christians complain about her killing, emphasizing that Muslims have never insulted Jesus, whom they recognize as Prophet Isa. He insists that insulting the Prophet is an unforgivable offence, labelling Christians who do so as “stupid” and stating that anyone guilty of blasphemy must be killed.
Shifting the focus to the recent killings in Uromi, the speaker directly addresses President Bola Tinubu and Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, demanding immediate justice for the slain northerners.
He issued a 48-hour ultimatum, warning that if those responsible are not apprehended, Christians residing in the North will face retaliation, regardless of their state of origin.
He stresses that there are many Southerners living in Borno, Jos, Kano, and Adamawa and that any reprisal attacks will not discriminate between states.

Furthermore, he warns that if swift action is not taken, the government will be responsible for any subsequent violence. He insists that northern youths will not remain patient, stating, “Let this be the last warning.”
He makes it clear that if the authorities fail to act within the stipulated time, reprisal attacks will be inevitable, emphasizing that they will not allow their hearts to be at peace.

The video has since sparked outrage across social media, with many condemning both the justification of extrajudicial killings and the threats of violence. Religious and community leaders have called for calm and lawful justice, urging the public to refrain from acts that could further escalate tensions.
Security analysts warn that inflammatory statements like these could ignite religious and ethnic conflicts if not properly addressed.
The Nigerian government and security agencies have yet to release an official response to the video, but pressure is mounting for immediate intervention to prevent potential retaliatory attacks and ensure the safety of all citizens.
